HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE & POLICE COMMISSION - 01/14/2014 - FIRE & POLICE COMMISSION MINUTES c: Village Clerk MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE HELD ON JANUARY 14, 2014 Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke, Commissioner Michael Kontek. It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the minutes of December 17, 2013 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES 1. Invoice 512440 dated 1/3/2014 in the amount of$1,145.50 for medical evaluations for two police officer candidates. 2. Invoice 512965 dated 1/3/2014 in the amount of$1,610.00 for medical evaluations for three police officer candidates. 3. Invoice 69263-14 dated 12/31/2013 in the amount of$1,500.00 for annual retainer fee for legal services. 4. Invoice SA024520 dated 12/30/2013 in the amount of$1,185.00 for psychological evaluations for three police officer candidates. 5. Invoice 4023 dated 12/23/2013 in the amount of$135.00 for polygraph examination of firefighter candidate. It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. CORRESPONDENCE 1. Memo to Human Resources Director advising that Probationary Police Officers Daniel S. Johnson, Juan Andrade and Matthew Stencel satisfactorily completed their probationary period and are appointed to the permanent position of Police Officer in the Elk Grove Village Police Department effective 12/21/2013. 2. Memo from Chief Schmidt advising that Police Officer Myles Greenberg submitted his Letter of Retirement effective December 30, 2013. 3. Received Vendor Application and promotional brochures from Resource Management Associates in Tinley Park. Minutes of the Regular Meeting January 14,2014 Page 1 of 2 4. Letter of Congratulations to Nathan Gac on his promotion to the rank of Fire Lieutenant effective September 30, 2013. OLD BUSINESS 1. Discussed Police Officer hiring process. Meeting with Chief Schmidt to discuss applicant requriements and the testing process 2. Discussed Firefighter hiring process. Meeting with Chief Mikel to discuss staffing and candidate status. NEW BUSINESS 1. Meeting with Probationary Police Officer Kevin Wsol for his six-month probationary review. ELIGIBILITY LIST /HIRING STATUS 1. Police Officer—Eligibility list is expired. New testing process to commence on April 13; 2014. 2. Firefighter—Thirty two names remain on the eligibility list scheduled to expire on September 20, 2015. Currently processing candidates for four openings. 3. Police Sergeant—Two names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on April 20, 2015. 4. Fire Lieutenant—Seven names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on May 6, 2015. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Chairman Shapiro that the meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried.
