MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON FEBRUARY 18,2014
Secretary E. Butch Ehrke called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek
Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the
following members were present: Secretary E. Butch Ehrke and Commissioner Michael
Kontek.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of January 14, 2014 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Secretary
Fluke declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Invoice SA024649 from Stanard and Associates dated 1/31/2014 in the amount of
$2,370.00 for psychological evaluation of six firefighter candidates.
2. Invoice 29214 from The Blue Line dated 2/10/14 in the amount of$397.00 for internet
advertising to recruit police officer candidates (written exam 4/13/14).
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the
Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by
acclamation whereupon the Commissioner Fluke declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Written Reprimand dated January 23, 2014 to Police Sergeant for violating Rules and
Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.1 A, Rules of
Conduct,Rule 13 (Failure to adequately secure, use, care and maintain Department
property or equipment).
2. Notice of Suspension dated January 27, 2014 to Police Officer for violating Rules and
Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.IA, Rules of
Conduct, Rule 149 (Failure to appear in court when required or scheduled). One day
suspension to be served on February 18, 2014.
3. Appointment letters to four firefighter candidates (Paliga, Bell, Derouin and Gedutis)
with a hire date of March 3, 2014.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Discussed Police Officer hiring process. Meeting with Chief Schmidt to discuss
applicant requriements and the testing process.

2. Discussed Firefighter hiring process. Meeting with Chief Mikel to discuss staffing
and candidate status.
NEW BUSINESS
1. None.
ELIGIBILITY LIST/HIRING STATUS
1. Police Officer—Eligibility list is expired. New testing process to commence on
April 13, 2014.
2. Firefighter—Twenty-eight names remain on the eligibility list scheduled to expire
on September 20, 2015.
3. Police Sergeant—Two names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on
April 20, 2015.
4. Fire Lieutenant— Seven names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on
May 6, 2015.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded Secretary Ehrke that the meeting be
adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Secretary Ehrke declared
the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:00 p.m.
