MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON APRIL 15, 2014
Secretary Ehrke called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building, 901
Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following members
were present: Secretary E. Butch Ehrke and Commissioner Michael Kontek.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of March 11, 2014 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Secretary
Ehrke declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Advocate Occupational Health Invoice 9516121 dated 3/6/2014 in the amount of
$950.00 for medical evaluation of two firefighter candidates (Bell and Gedutis).
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the
Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by
acclamation whereupon the Secretary declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Memo from Chief Schmidt advising that Ofc. Greg Jones resigned effective April 6,
2014.
2. Memo from Chief Mikel advising that Firefighter Michael Tosto Jr. will be retiring
effective May 16, 2014.
3. Memo from Chief Mikel advising that Village Manager has approved the hire of one
firefighter to replace Firefighter Tosto.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Discussed Police Officer hiring process.
2. Discussed Firefighter hiring process.
NEW BUSINESS
1. None

ELIGIBILITY LIST/HIRING STATUS
1. Police Officer—Eligibility list is expired. Written examination was administered to
217 candidates on 4/13/2014.
2. Firefighter—Twenty-eight names remain on the eligibility list scheduled to expire
on September 20, 2015.
3. Police Sergeant—Two names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on
April 20, 2015.
4. Fire Lieutenant—Six names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on May
6, 2015.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Secretary Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting be
adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Secretary Ehrke declared
the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
