MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON MAY 21, 2014
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke and
Commissioner Michael Kontek.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of April 15, 2014 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with
the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Stanard & Associates Invoice SA25289 dated 4/24/2014 in the amount of$7953.37
for Police Officer Written Examination (Test Forms including four components,
Administration, Proctor Travel Expenses and Scoring). 330 applicants registered to sit
for the exam; 217 candidates were tested.
2. Theodore Polygraph Service, Invoice 4237 dated 5/9/14 in the amount of$135.00 for
polygraph evaluation of Firefighter Candidate Gumprecht.
3. Theodore Polygraph Service, Invoice 4234 dated 5/7/14 in the amount of$135.00 for
polygraph evaluation of Firefighter Candidate Logan.
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the
Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by
acclamation whereupon the Secretary declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Appointment Letter to FF Joseph Thompson and FF Brian Gumprecht effective May
19, 2014.
2. Letter of Resignation from Firefighter Brian Paliga effective May 8, 2014.
3. Written Reprimand to Police Officer for violating Rules and Regulations of the Elk
Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.IA, Rules of Conduct, Rule 33
(Failure to be Prompt for Duty Assignment).

1. Discussed Police Officer hiring process.
2. Discussed Firefighter hiring process.

NEW BUSINESS
1. None
ELIGIBILITY LIST/HIRING STATUS
1. Police Officer—Eligibility list is expired. Preliminary eligibility list containing 153
names was posted on 5/6/2014. Currently processing candidates through group
interview stage to create final eligibility list.
2. Firefighter—Twenty-six names remain on the eligibility list scheduled to expire on
September 20, 2015.
3. Police Sergeant—Two names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on
April 20, 2015.
4. Fire Lieutenant— Six names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on May
6, 2015.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Secretary Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting be
adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
