HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE & POLICE COMMISSION - 06/17/2014 - FIRE & POLICE COMMISSION MINUTES c: Village Clerk MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE HELD ON JUNE 17, 2014 Secretary Fluke called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following were present: Chairman Alan Shapiro (via telephone conference call), and Secretary E. Butch Ehrke and Commissioner Michael Kontek were physically present. It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the minutes of May 15, 2014 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES 1. Stanard & Associates invoice SA000025552 dated 5/23/14 in the amount of$395.00 for psychological evaluation of firefighter candidate (Gumprecht). 2. Advocate Occupational Health Invoice 4526867 dated 5/2/2014 in the amount of $475.00 for medical evaluation of firefighter candidate (Thompson). It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. CORRESPONDENCE 1. Memos from Chief Schmidt regarding the performance of probationary police officers (Wsol, Abad. Albro and Hain). 2. Email from Fire Union 2340 dated 5/28/2014 requesting extension of Fire Lieutenant Eligibility List 3. Email to John Kelly regarding Local 2340's request to extend the Fire Lieutenant Eligibility List. 4. Email to Village Manager and Fire Chief regarding Local 2340's request to extend the Fire Lieutenant Eligibility List. 5. Responses from John Kelly, Village Manager and Fire Chief regarding Local 2340's request to extend the Fire Lieutenant List. 6. Email from 1FPCA regarding the use of Physical Agility Tests and Power Tests. 7. Email from Fire Chief advising that the Village Manager has authorized the immediate hiring of one firefighter. OLD BUSINESS 1. Discussed Police Officer hiring process. Minutes of the Regular Meeting June 17;2014 Page I of 2 2. Discussed Firefighter hiring process. NEW BUSINESS 1. None ELIGIBILITY LIST /HIRING STATUS 1. Police Officer Eligibility List - Preliminary list containing 153 candidates was published on May 5, 2014. We are currently processing the first 78 candidates through the group interview stage to create a Final Eligibility List. 2. Firefighter—Twenty-six names remain on the eligibility list scheduled to expire on 9/20/15. 3. Police Sergeant—Two names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on 4/20/2015. 4. Fire Lieutenant—Six names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on 5/6/15. EXECUTIVE SESSION It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the Commission adjourn to Executive Session to discuss personnel matters. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried. Conducted reviews for Probationary Police Officers (one final review and three six month reviews). ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the executive session and regular meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried.
