HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE & POLICE COMMISSION - 08/19/2014 - FIRE & POLICE COMMISSION MINUTES c: Village Clerk MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE HELD ON AUGUST 19, 2014 Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke and Commissioner Michael Kontek. It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the minutes of July 24, 2014 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES 1. Theodore Polygraph Service Invoice 44393 dated 8/1/2014 in the amount of$675.00 for five police officer candidates that underwent polygraph evaluations. 2. Stanard and Associates, Inc., Invoice SA000026130 dated 8/19/2014 in the amount of $2,370.00 for six personality evaluations (five police officer candidates and one firefighter candidate). It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. CORRESPONDENCE 1. Order of Suspension dated 8/6/2014 from Chief Schmidt to Police Officer for violating Rules and Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.1 A, Rules of Conduct, Rule 38 (Failure to inventory and process recovered property in compliance with Department orders); one day suspension to be served on August 12, 2014. 2. Order of Suspension dated 8/7/2014 from Chief Schmidt to Police Officer for violating Rules and Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.1 A, Rules of Conduct, Rule 46 (Failure to operate Village vehicle in a safe and prudent manner or to obey related traffic laws); two day suspension to be served on August 21 and 22, 2014. 3. Order of Suspension dated 8/12/2014 from Chief Schmidt to Police Officer for violating Rules and Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.1 A, Rules of Conduct, Rule 49 (Failure to appear in court when required or scheduled); one day suspension to be served on August 23, 2014. 4. Order of Suspension dated 8/13/2014 from Chief Schmidt to Police Officer for violating Rules and Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.1 A, Rules of Conduct, Rule 07 (Insubordination or disrespect toward a supervisory member); one day suspension to be served on September 1, 2014. Minutes of the Regular Meeting August 19,2014 Page I of 2 5. Notice of Appeal dated 8/14/2014 from Ofc. Edwin Medina relating to one day suspension to be served on September 1, 2014. 6. Information from I/O Systems formerly Selection Works regarding Public Act 98-760 and the establishment of cut-off scores for firefighter written examinations. 7. Appointment Letter to Firefighter Christopher Polich scheduled to report for work on September 2, 2014. OLD BUSINESS 1. Discussed Police Officer hiring process. 2. Discussed Firefighter hiring process. 3. Meeting with Chief Mikel to discuss the Fire Union's request to extend the Fire Lieutenant Eligibility List. NEW BUSINESS 1. None ELIGIBILITY LIST/HIRING STATUS 1. Police Officer—New final eligibility list containing forty-eight names will expire on June 27, 2016. Seventy five names remain on the Preliminary List. 2. Firefighter—Twenty-six names remain on the eligibility list scheduled to expire on September 20, 2015. 3. Police Sergeant—Two names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on April 20, 2015. 4. Fire Lieutenant— Six names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on May 6, 2015. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried.
