HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE & POLICE COMMISSION - 09/16/2014 - FIRE & POLICE COMMISSION MINUTES c: Village Clerk MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2014 Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Fluke, Commissioner Michael Kontek, and Attorney John Kelly. It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the minutes of August 19, 2014 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES 1. Advocate Occupational Health Invoice 539313 dated 9/15/14 in the amount of $2312.00 for medical evaluations for four police officer candidates. 2. Advocate Occupational Health Invoice 539317 dated 9/15/14 in the amount of $475.00 for medical evaluation of firefighter candidate. 3. Invoice 73567 dated 8/31/14 in the amount of$95.00 from Ottosen Britz Kelly Cooper Gilbert and DiNolfo, Ltd. for review of communications regarding Medina hearing. It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. CORRESPONDENCE 1. The Commission reviewed and discussed the Union's request to extend the Fire Lieutenant Eligibility List through November 1, 2016. Commissioner Kontek motioned not to extend the list at this time. Motion was seconded by Commissioner Ehrke and voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried. Chairman Shapiro asked Attorney John Kelly to prepare a letter to the Union advising them of the Commission's decision. Minutes of the Regular Meeting September 16.2014 Page I of 3 i 2. Notice issued on August 27, 2014 advising that an Appeal Hearing for the Suspension of Police Officer Edwin Medina will be conducted on September 22, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at the Charles J. Zettek Municipal Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, IL. 3, Appointment letters to Police Officers Thomas Molloy, Mark Johnson, Steven Guther and Michael Daily advising them to report for work on September 22, 2014. 4, Memo to Chief Schmidt dated 8/21/2014 requesting comments/constructive criticism regarding the six month performance of Probationary Police Officers Angela Garza and David Morales. 5, Memo to Chief Mikel dated 8/21/2014 requesting comments or constructive criticism regarding the six month performance of Probationary Firefighters Bryan Bell, Alexander Gedutis and Joshua Derouin. 6, Memo from Chief Schmidt regarding the performance of Probationary Police Officers Garza and Morales. 7, Memo from Chief Mikel regarding the performance of Probationary Firefighters Bell, Gedutis and Derouin. OLD BUSINESS 1. Discussed Firelighter hiring process. 2. Meeting with Chief Schmidt to discuss police officer hiring process. NEW BUSINESS 1, None ELIGIBILITY LIST /HIRING STATUS 1. Police Officer: Thirty-two names remain on the final eligibility list scheduled to expire on June 27, 2016. Seventy-five names remain on the Preliminary List. 2. Firefighter: Sixteen names remain on the eligibility list scheduled to expire on September 20, 2015. 3. Police Sergeant: Two names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on April 20, 2015. 4. Fire Lieutenant: Six names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on May 6, 2015. EXECUTIVE SESSION It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the Commission adjourn to Executive Session to discuss personnel matters. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried. Conducted probationary reviews for two police officers and three firefighters. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried.
