HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE & POLICE COMMISSION - 10/21/2014 - FIRE & POLICE COMMISSION MINUTES c: Village Clerk MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE HELD ON OCTOBER 21, 2014 Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke, Commissioner Michael Kontek, Police Chief Stephen Schmidt, and Fire Chief Richard Mikel. It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Fluke that the minutes of September 16, 2014 meeting be approved as submitted, and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES 1. Invoice 4532 dated 10/3/2014 in the amount of$270.00 from Theodore Polygraph Service for polygraph examinations of two police officer candidates (Vann and Kure). 2. Invoice 4547 dated 10/13/2014 in the amount of$405.00 from Theodore Polygraph Service for polygraph examinations of three police officer candidates (Moore, Irving, and Swoboda). 3. Invoice 100114 dated 10/1/2014 in the amount of$375.00 from Illinois Fire & Police Commissioners Association for 2015 membership dues. 4. Invoice 74253 dated 9/30/2014 in the amount of$190.00 from Ottosen Britz Kelly Cooper Gilbert & DiNolfo, Ltd. for legal fees associated with Officer Edwin Medina's suspension appeal. It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried. CORRESPONDENCE 1. Letter of Resignation from Police Officer Kenneth Albro effective 9/17/2014. 2. Notice from Attorney Joseph Mazzone dated 9/19/14 advising that Police Officer Edwin Medina has withdrawn his request for an appeal hearing. 3. Response letter dated 9/30/2014 from the Commission to Mr. John Lodewyck regarding the Union's request to extend the Fire Lieutenant Eligibility List. 4. Written Reprimand dated 10/9/2014 to Police Officer for violating Rules and Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.1 A, Rules of Conduct, Rule 033 (Failure to be prompt for duty assignment). 5. Memo from Police Chief and Village Manager authorizing the Fire and Police Commission to hire five police officers. Minutes of the Regular Meeting October 21,2014 Page I of 2 OLD BUSINESS 1. Discussed Police Officer hiring process. 2. Discussed Firefighter hiring process. NEW BUSINESS 1. None ELIGIBILITY LIST /HIRING STATUS 1. Police Officer: Thirty names remain on the final eligibility list scheduled to expire on June 27, 2016. Seventy-five names remain on the Preliminary List. 2. Firefighter: Fourteen names remain on the eligibility list scheduled to expire on September 20, 2015, 3. Police Sergeant: Two names remain on the eligibility list scheduled to expire on April 20, 2015. 4. Fire Lieutenant: Six names remain on the eligibility list scheduled to expire on May 6, 2015. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the regular meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried.
