MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON NOVEMBER 18,2014
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke,
Commissioner Michael Kontek, Police Chief Stephen Schmidt and Fire Chief Richard Mikel.
It was moved by Commissioner Kontek and seconded by Commissioner Ehrke that the
minutes of October 21, 2014 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense
with the reading thereof. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman
Shapiro declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Stanard& Associates, Inc., Invoice SA0026880 dated 11/18/2014 in the amount of
$2,370.00 for psychological evaluations for six police officer candidates.
2. All Purpose Polygraph Service, Invoice 4110714 dated 11/13/2014 in the amount of
$135.00 for polygraph examination of police officer candidate.
3. Theodore Polygraph Service, Invoice 4556 dated 10/20/2014 in the amount of$135.00
for polygraph examination of police officer candidate.
4. Independent Stationers, Invoice 470843 dated 10/27/2014 in the amount of$66.14 for
office supplies.
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded by Commissioner Kontek that the
Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. The motion was voted upon by
acclamation whereupon the Chairman declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Memo from Lt. Kevin Nejedlo regarding the performance of Probationary Firefighter
Brian Gumprecht.
2. Memo from Lt. Roger Ferguson regarding the performance of Probationary Firefighter
Joseph Thompson.
3. Written Reprimand dated 11/13/2014 to Police Officer for violating Rules and
Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.I.1A, Rules of
Conduct, Rule 40 (Dissemination or release of information concerning police matters
except as authorized).
OLD BUSINESS
1. Discussed Firefighter hiring process.
2. Meeting with Chief Schmidt to discuss the Police Officer hiring process.

NEW BUSINESS
1. None
ELIGIBILITY LIST/HIRING STATUS
1. Police Officer: Thirty names remain on the final eligibility list scheduled to expire
on June 27, 2016. Seventy-five names remain on the Preliminary List.
2. Firefighter: Thirteen names remain on the eligibility list scheduled to expire on
September 20, 2015.
3. Police Sergeant: Two names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on April
20, 2015.
4. Fire Lieutenant: Six names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on May 6,
2015.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the
Commission adjourn to Executive Session to discuss personnel matter. The motion was voted
upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried.
Conducted six-month probationary reviews for two firefighters.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the executive
session and regular meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried. Meeting adjourned 6:00 p.m.
