HomeMy WebLinkAboutPOLICE PENSION - 05/21/2015 - POLICE PENSION BOARD MINUTES Elk Grove Village Police Pension Board May 21 st, 2015 Meeting Minutes 901 Wellington Ave, Elk Grove Village 1L The regular meeting was called to order at 3:32 PM by President Ambrose. Present were Trustee Ambrose, Trustee Partin, Trustee Gottwald, Trustee Moody, Trustee Torres, and Christine Tromp from the Elk Grove Village Finance Department. Elk Grove Village Police Department Chief Stephen Schmidt was in the audience. No other members of the public were present. A quorum was present. The minutes of the last meeting, April 14th,2015, were read. A motion to approve the minutes of the last meeting was made by Trustee Moody, Second by Trustee Gottwald. Aye to approve: Unanimous. Motion carried. The next regular meeting date was scheduled for Tuesday, July 14th, 2014 at 3:30PM at 901 Wellington Ave, Elk Grove Village, IL. The Board and Chief Schmidt discussed the Illinois Retired Officers Concealed Carry Program. The Board has taken a position that it cannot make a determination if an officer has left the department"in good standing'. Effective immediately, for purposes where the board receives an application for the Illinois Retired Officers Concealed Carry program, members of the Police Pension Board shall not sign the form, but shall forward the application to the office of the chief of police. In matters where the applicant is on a disability pension, or is on a regular pension having previously determined to be disabled by the Police Pension Board, the applicant shall provide written authorization to the Police Pension Board allowing the Board to release medical information to the office of the chief of police. The motion was made by Torres. Second by Partin. Aye to approve: Unanimous. Motion carried. The board was also made aware of four retirements from the Police Department. They are as follows: Ofc. Michael McGreal retired on 5/16/2015. He served 28 years 1 month and 9 days of creditable serivice. His annual salary was $92,382, with an initial annual benefit of$64,668.80. His monthly benefit is $5,389.07. A motion to accept Ofc. M. McGreal's application for pension disbursement was made by Gottwald, Second by Moody. Aye to approve: Unanimous. Motion carried. Ofc. Rebecca McGreal retired on 5/17/2015. She served 24 years 1 month and 3 days of creditable service. Her annual salary was $92,382, with an initial annual benefit of$55,430.40. Her monthly benefit will be$1,788.08. A motion to accept Ofc. R. McGreal's application for deferred pension disbursement to be begin on 10/20/2017, was made by Partin, Second by Moody. Aye to approve: Unanimous. Motion carried. Ofc. John Suarez retired on 5/17/2015. He served 31 years 2 months and 7 days of creditable service. His annual salary was $92,382, with an initial annual benefit of$69,288. His monthly benefit is $5,774.00. A motion to accept Ofc. Suarez's application for pension disbursement was made by Gottwald, Second by Moody. Aye to approve: Unanimous. Motion carried. Ofc. Bruce Homfeldt retired May 20"i, 2015. He served 33 yrs 3 months and 6 days of creditable service, His annual salary was $92,382, with an initial annual benefit of$69,286.50. His monthly benefit is $5,773.88. A motion to accept Ofc. Homfeldt's application for pension disbursement was made by Parrin, Second by Moody. Aye to approve: Unanimous. Motion carried. The board discussed the annual medical re-examination for Ofc. Sabo, who is on a disability status. A motion was made by Trustee Gottwald to authorize INSPE and Attorney Reimer to make arrangements for Ofc. Sabo's medical examination. Second by Moody.. Aye to approve: Unanimous. Motion carried. I Elk Grove Village Police Pension Board May 21 st, 2015 Meeting Minutes 901 Wellington Ave, Elk Grove Village IL The board discussed the recent passing of a beneficiary who passed away recently out of state, and the need for improved communication with beneficiaries and retirees. Trustee Torres presented a sample correspondence form which was distributed by a different pension board to their retirees. The matter was tabled for future discussion. The following expense was presented: A bill dated 4/1/15 in the amount of$11,250 was received from Marquette Associates for investment consulting services for the period of April 1, 2015 through June 30, 2015. A motion to pay expenses was made by Torres. Second by Partin. Aye to approve: Unanimous. Motion carried. There was no comment from the public.
