HomeMy WebLinkAboutORDINANCE - 3600 - 3/26/2019 - Fire prevention code amendedORDINANCE NO.3600 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 3 FIRE PREVENTION CODE OF TITLE 5 OF THE VILLAGE CODE BY AMENDING A PROVISION OF THE 2012 CODE PERTAINING TO OPEN -FLAME COOKING DEVICES BY ADDING ADDITIONAL EXCEPTIONS TO THE REGULATIONS WHEREAS, Chapter 3 of Title 5 of the Village Code has adopted the 2012 edition of the International Fire Code; and WHEREAS, Section 308.1.4 of said code has regulations regarding certain prohibitions for charcoal burners and other open -flame cooking devices; and WHEREAS, the Fire Chief, after a review of said section at the direction of the Village Board, has recommended that this section be amended by adding additional exceptions to the prohibitions; and WHEREAS, the Mayor and Board of Trustees, after reviewing the recommendation of the Fire Chief, find and believe it to be in the best interest of the Village to amend the Fire Code as recommended by the Chief. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and DuPage, Illinois, as follows: Section 1: That Section 308.1.4 of the 2012 International Fire Code be amended to read as follows: 308.1.4 Open -flame cooking devices. Charcoal burners and other open -flame cooking devices shall not be operated on combustible balconies or within 10 feet (3048 mm) of combustible construction. Exceptions: 1. One- and two-family dwellings. 2. Where buildings, balconies and decks are protected by an automatic sprinkler system. 3. LP -gas cooking devices having LP -gas container with a water capacity not greater than 2`/2 pounds [nominal 1 pound (0.454 kg) LP -gas capacity]. 4. When an open -flame cooking device is attended by an adult and a minimum 10 lb. dry chemical (class B or class ABC) fire extinguisher is located within ten (10) feet of the cooking device. 5. When an LP -gas fueled cooking device is attended by an adult and a minimum 10 lb. dry chemical (class B or class ABC) fire extinguisher is located within ten (10) feet of the cooking device. Section 2: That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval according to law. VOTE: AYES:6 NAYS:0 ABSENT:0 PASSED this 26th day of March 2019.
