HomeMy WebLinkAboutFIRE & POLICE COMMISSION - 07/29/2015 - F&P COMMISSION c: Village Clerk MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE HELD ON JULY 29, 2015 Chairman E. Butch Ehrke called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following members were present: Secretary Michael Kontek and Commissioner Dion Zinnel. Guests present: Chief Richard Mikel and Chief Stephen Schmidt. Secretary Kontek moved that the minutes of the June 16, 2015 meeting be approved as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. Commissioner Zinnel seconded the motion. It was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Ehrke declared the motion carried. PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES 1. The Blue Line invoice 32709 dated 7/1/2015 in the amount of$298.00 for online publication of Firefighter Recruitment Ad. 2. Stanard and Associates Invoice SA28716 dated 6/30/15 in the amount of$512.00 for fee associated with Police Sergeant Promotional Process (consulting). 3. Stanard and Associates Invoice SA28705 dated 6/30/15 in the amount of$3223.28 for fees associated with Police Sergeant Promotional Process (written examination, assessment center component, responses to challenged questions and travel expenses). 4. Advocate Occupational Health Invoice 570726 dated 7/2/15 in the amount of$475.00 for medical evaluation of firefighter candidate (Galarza). 5. Invoice 1094 from Illinois Fire &Police Commissioners Association in the amount of $105.00 for Commissioner's Manual and Current Act Booklet. 6. Theodore Polygraph Service Invoice 4924 dated 07/02/2015 in the amount of$150.00 for polygraph evaluation of police candidate (Barker). 7. Daily Herald Invoice T4412798 dated 7/12/15 in the amount of$1048.00 for publication of Firefighter Ad which ran from 7/8/15 to 7/13/15. Commissioner Zinnel moved that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment. Secretary Kontek seconded the motion. It was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Ehrke declared the motion carried. CORRESPONDENCE 1. Letter of resignation from Police Officer David Irving; separation effective June 26, 2015. 2. Memo from Firefighters Union Local 2340 regarding an additional extension of the Fire Lieutenant Eligibility List. Minutes of the Regular Meeting July 29.2015 Page I o1 2 3. Meeting Notice from the Village Clerk stating that the Fire & Police Commission regularly scheduled meeting to be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 has been cancelled and rescheduled to Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at 5:00 p.m. 4. Response letter to Local 2340 denying their request to further extend the Fire Lieutenant Eligibility List. OLD BUSINESS 1. Meeting with Chief Mikel to discuss status of hiring process and new entry firefighter testing process. 2. Meeting with Chief Schmidt to discuss the Police Sergeant Promotional Process and status of police officer candidates. NEW BUSINESS 1. Reviewed paperwork and discussed six month performance of one probationary firefighter (McConville). 2. Conducted two individual oral interviews for police officer candidates (Petrouski, Kappos). ELIGIBILITY LIST 1. Police Sergeant—There are seven names on the list created on July 7, 2015. 2. Firefighter — List is exhausted. Written examination is scheduled to take place on August 8, 2015. 3. Fire Lieutenant - Four names remain on the eligibility list which is scheduled to expire on November 6, 2015. 4. Police Officer - Twenty-one names remain on the final eligibility list scheduled to expire on June 27, 2016. ADJOURNMENT It was moved by Commissioner Zinnel and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the regular meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Ehrke declared the motion carried. Meeting adjourned 6:30 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Michael P.
