MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON MAY 19, 2015
Secretary E. Butch Ehrke called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek
Building, 901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the
following members were present: Secretary E. Butch Ehrke and Commissioner Michael
Kontek. Guests present: Chief Richard Mikel, Chief Stephen Schmidt, and Michael Marks,
Community Outreach Director for State Representative Michelle Mussman and Lory
Newcomb of Stanard and Associates.
Commissioner Kontek moved that the minutes of the April 14, 2015 meeting be approved as
submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. Commissioner Ehrke
seconded the motion. It was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Commissioner Ehrke
declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
1. Invoice SA000028246 dated 04/30/2015 in the amount of 395.00 from Stanard &
Associates for personality evaluation of police officer candidate (Mironov).
2. Invoice 4844 dated 05/05/2015 in the amount of$150.00 from Theodore Polygraph
Service for polygraph examination of firefighter candidate (Galarza).
3. Invoice 4862 dated 05/14/2015 in the amount of$150.00 from Theodore Polygraph
Service for polygraph examination of firefighter candidate (Johnson).
4. Invoice dated 04/30/2015 from Illinois State Police in the amount of$59.50 for
fingerprint processing fee for firefighter candidates (Johnson/Beyer).
Commissioner Ehrke moved that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment.
Commissioner Kontek seconded the motion. It was voted upon by acclamation whereupon
Commissioner Ehrke declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Notice of Resignation from Firefighter Donald "JR" Hoffman effective 05/04/2015.
2. Notice of Retirement from PO Michael McGreal effective 05/16/2015 after 28 years
of service.
3. Notice of Retirement from PO Rebecca McGreal effective 05/17/2015 after 24 years
of service.
4. Notice of Retirement from BC Mark Sellers effective 05/17/2015 after 29 years of
service.
5. Notice of Retirement from Oft. Bruce Homfeldt effective 05/20/2015 after 33 years of
service.
6. Notice of Retirement from Ofr. Thomas Danahy effective 6/29/2015 after 28 years of
service.

7. Memo from Chief Mikel announcing promotions effective 0512612015: Lt. Mark
Percudani promoted to the rank of Battalion Chief. Firefighter Paramedic James
Denna Jr. promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
OLD BUSINESS
1. Meeting with Chief Mikel to discuss firefighter openings, status of hiring process and
new entry firefighter testing process.
NEW BUSINESS
1. Meeting with Chief Schmidt to discuss the Police Sergeant Promotional Process and
status of police officer candidates.
ELIGIBILITY LIST
1. Police Sergeant—List expired.
2. Firefighter - Four names remain on the eligibility list scheduled to expire on
September 20, 2015.
3. Fire Lieutenant- Four names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on
November 6, 2015.
4. Police Officer - Twenty-two names remain on the final eligibility list scheduled to
expire on June 27, 2016.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
1. Conducted two final reviews for probationary firefighters (Thompson and Gumprecht).
2. Conducted three individual oral interviews for firefighter candidates (Schlott, Beyer
and Johnson).
3. Stanard and Associates administered written examination for the rank of Police
Sergeant to 19 candidates.
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the executive
session and regular meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon Commissioner Ehrke declared the motion carried. Meeting adjourned 9:10 p.m.
