MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON APRIL 14, 2015
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke and
Commissioner Michael Kontek. Guests present: Chief Richard Mikel.
Commissioner Kontek moved that the minutes of the 17 March 2015 meeting be approved as
submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. Commissioner Ehrke
seconded the motion. It was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
I. Invoice 577446 from Advocate Occupational Health dated 03 April 2015 in the
amount of$1041.00 for medical evaluations for two police officer candidates.
2. Invoice SA000027840 from Stanard and Associates dated 30 March 2015 in the
amount of$5360.65 for Police Sergeant Promotional Process (development of written
exam, assessment center and consultant travel fee).
3. Invoice SA000027884 from Stanard and Associates dated 30 March 2015 in the
amount of$790.00 for personality evaluations for two police officer candidates.
Commissioner Ehrke moved that the Board authorize the disbursement of funds for payment.
Conmiissioner Kontek seconded the motion. It was voted upon by acclamation whereupon
Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried.
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Memo dated 18 March 2015 to HR Director advising that Police Officers Angela
Garza and David Morales have successfully completed their probationary period and
are hereby appointed to the permanent position of Police Officer in the Elk Grove
Village Police Department effective 28 March 2015.
2. Letter of Retirement from Police Officer John Suarez effective 17 May 2015 after 28
years of service.
3. Letter of Retirement from Battalion Chief Robert Stecki effective 19 May 2015 after
26 years of service.
4. Letter of Retirement from Firefighter Carla Penn effective 19 May 2015 after 22 years
of service.
5. Notice of Fire & Police Commission meeting change: 22 April 2015 meeting
cancelled and rescheduled for 14 April 2015.

OLD BUSINESS
1. None
NEW BUSINESS
1. Meeting with Chief Mikel to discuss firefighter openings, status of hiring process and
new entry firefighter testing process.
ELIGIBILITY LIST
1. Police Sergeant - Two names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on 20
April 2015.
2. Firefighter - Five names remain on the eligibility list scheduled to expire on 20
September 2015.
3. Fire Lieutenant - Five names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on 06
November 2015.
4. Police Officer - Twenty-two names remain on the final eligibility list scheduled to
expire on 27 June 2016,
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the
Commission adjourn to Executive Session to discuss personnel matters. The motion was
voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
1. Conduct two individual oral interviews for Firefighter candidates (Galarza and
Steinhaus).
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the executive
session and regular meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried. Meeting adjourned 6:30 p.m.
