MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS
OF THE VILLAGE OF ELK GROVE VILLAGE
HELD ON FEBRUARY 17, 2015
Chairman Shapiro called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. in the Charles J. Zettek Building,
901 Wellington Avenue, Elk Grove Village, and noted for the record that the following
members were present: Chairman Alan J. Shapiro DDS, Secretary E. Butch Ehrke. Guest
present: Lory Newcomb of Stanard and Associates
Commissioner Kontek moved that the minutes of the January 20, 2015 meeting be approved .
as submitted and that the Board dispense with the reading thereof. Commissioner Ehrke
seconded the motion. It was voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro
declared the motion carried.
PRESENTATION AND APPROVAL OF INVOICES
None
CORRESPONDENCE
1. Written Reprimand dated 01/20/2015 to Police Officer for violating Rules and
Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.1 A, Rules of
Conduct, Rule 32 (Being absent for duty without proper authorization).
2. Written Reprimand dated 01/20/2015 to Police Officer for violating Rules and
Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.1 A, Rules of
Conduct, Rule 33 (Failure to be prompt for duty assignment including roll call and
court appearance).
3. Written Reprimand dated 01/20/2015 to Police Sergeant for violating Rules and
Regulations of the Elk Grove Village Police Department, Section 26.1.IA, Rules of
Conduct, Rule 13 (Failure to adequately secure, use, care and maintain Department
property or equipment).
4. Memo from Chief Schmidt advising that the Village Manager has authorized the
Commission to fill the police officer vacancy created by Michael Dailly's resignation.
The next academy commences on 3/30/2015, therefore, the replacement's hire date
will be 03/23/2015.
5. Received Employee Change Notice from Human Resources on 01/23/2015 advising
that Police Officer Carl D. Sabo resigned effective 02/28/2014.

NEW BUSINESS
1. Meeting with Lory Newcomb of Stanard and Associates to discuss Police Sergeant
Promotional Process. Lory will meet with Chief Schmidt and his command staff to
determine study materials for the written examination. Study list will be compiled and
available for the Commission's review at the next regular meeting.
ELIGIBILITY LIST /HIRING STATUS
1. Police Officer: Twenty-two names remain on the final eligibility list scheduled to
expire on June 27, 2016. Seventy-five names remain on the Preliminary List.
2. Firefighter: Seven names remain on the eligibility list scheduled to expire on
September 20, 2015.
3. Police Sergeant: Two names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on April
20, 2015.
4. Fire Lieutenant: Five names remain on the eligibility list which will expire on
November 6, 2015.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the
Commission adjourn to Executive Session to discuss personnel matters. The motion was
voted upon by acclamation whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried.
Conducted final probationary reviews for three firefighters (Bell, Deroin, Gedutis).
ADJOURNMENT
It was moved by Commissioner Ehrke and seconded Commissioner Kontek that the executive
session and regular meeting be adjourned. The motion was voted upon by acclamation
whereupon Chairman Shapiro declared the motion carried. Meeting adjourned 7:00 p.m.
