WEBSITE REDESIGN
The Committee met for the purpose of reviewing the website redesign process.
C. Gabiga asked the committee what are the benefits and drawbacks of the current Village website. The
Committee and staff reviewed the design, navigation, and content of the current Elk Grove Village website,
local government websites designed by the website provider (Granicus) the Village is considering using,
and other newly redesigned local government websites.
Trustee Feichter noted that the website redesign should provide the best impression of the Village for
residents, business owners, and visitors. The Committee discussed that website needs to be attractive, easy
to navigate and practical. Trustee Feichter mentioned the information currently displayed on the Village’s
website that includes the calendar of events, Village news and buttons are very useful features and should
be incorporated into the website redesign.
Trustee Prochno explained that the current Elk Grove Village website search engine has benefitted her with
finding information quickly. Chairman Lissner mentioned the search process can often pull a variety of
information relating to the topic and asked if there is anything that can be done to minimize outdated and
nonrelated information through the search feature.
B. Southey identified that navigation buttons are customizable features across many updated municipal
websites. C. Gabiga suggested that the buttons would be identified based on the information provided from
the developers website usability report that will be presented at a later date.
Trustee Feichter suggested adding in photos from the Technology Park to the list of images to incorporate
on the homepage and website redesign. The Committee discussed adding photos that identify the Village
and entire community.
Trustee Prochno identified that certain text may be difficult to see on some of the website examples.
A. Pollack mentioned the importance of having a stark contrast between the text and the background images,
and highlighted the importance of the translation feature.
Staff will look into the following matters and report back to the Committee:
