AN ORDINANCE CREATING THE POSITION OF DEPUTY
CHIEF OF POLICE AND MODIFYING CHAPTER 5 OF
THE MUNICIPAL CODE ACCORDINGLY
WHEREAS, the Village of Elk Grove Village is a "home rule"
municipality as defined by the 1970 Illinois Constitution and
has all powers and authority pertaining thereto; and
WHEREAS, it is the intention of the President and Board of
Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village to exercise its
powers as a "home rule" municipality by creating the position
of Deputy Chief of Police in accordnace with the provisions
hereof.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board
of Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Cook and DuPage
Counties, Illinois, as follows:
Section 1: That Section 5.001 of the Municipal Code is
amended by adding between "One (1) Chief of Police and Three (3)
Lieutenants" the following:
One (1) Deputy Chief of Police
Section 2: That Section 5.003 of the Municipal Code is
amended by adding the following:
There is also created the office of Deputy Chief of Police
who is to be appointed by the President with the consent
of the Board of Trustees and shall have all powers and
duties of the Chief of Police in the absence of the Chief
of Police. The Deputy Chief of Police shall retain his
rank and status during the period he serves as Deputy Chief.
Section 3: Section 5.004 of the Municipal Code shall be
revised to read as follows:
5.004 Appointment and promotions.) Appointments to and
promotion within the Police Department other than to the
office of Chief and Deputy Chief of Police shall be made
by the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners in the
manner provided for by law.
Section 4: Section 5.005 of the Municipal Code shall be
amended by adding thereto at end of last sentence "and Deputy
Chief of Police."
Section 5: This ordinance shall be in full force and effect
from and after its passage and approval according to law.
