AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE APPROACHING,
OVERTAKING, AND PASSING OF SCHOOL BUSES,
N04, THMM'ORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board of Traateas of
the Village- of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and DuPags, Illinois:
Section 1. That Section 14,3? f the Municipal Code of the Village of
Elk Grove Village relating to approaching, overtaking and passing of school
buses shall be amended as follows:
i
"Section 14.Approaching, Overtaking, and Passing School Bus.
"(a) The driver of a vehicle upon a highway upon meeting or
overtaking, from either direction, any school bus which has stopped on the
highway for the purpose of receiving or discharging any school children shall
stop the vehicle before reaching the school bus when there is in operation on
the school bus a visual signal to the front of two (2) alternately flashing
yellow lights located at the same level, and to the rear two (2) alternately
flashing red lights at the same level, and the driver shall not proceed until the
school bus resumes motion, or is signaled by the school bus driver to proceed,
or the visual signals are no longer actuated.
")b) The driver of a vehicle upon a highway of which the road-
ways for traffic moving in opposite directions are separated by a strip of ground
which is not surfaced or suitable for vehicular traffic need not stop his vehicle
upon meeting or passing a school bus which is on the opposite roadway; and need
not stop his vehicle when driving upon a controlled access highway when a school
bus is stopped in a loading sone adjacent to the surfaced or improved part of
the controlled access highway where pedestrians are not permitted to cross such
controlled access highway."
Section 2. That this ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage, approval and publication according to law.
