HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTION - 28-77 - 4/26/1977 - WATER SUPPLY/URGING TESTING/LEGISLATIONRESOLUTION N0, 2$-77 A RESOLUTION URGING THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS AND THE LEGISLATORS OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS TO PROVIDE THE NECESSARY FUNDS AND LEGISLATION FOR THE ILLINOIS ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY AND THE ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH TO INSURE THAT THE PEOPLE OF ILLINOIS WILL RECEIVE THE SAFEST POSSIBLE WATER SUPPLY WHEREAS, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the Illinois Department of Public Health have for many years had the responsibility of inspecting, supervising -and approving the construction, operation and manage- ment of public water supplies throughout the State of Illinois; and WHEREAS, the safe Drinking Water Act of 1975 requires additional monitor- ing,inspecting and supervising of public water supplies in order to adequately assure the deliverance of safe drinking water to the public; and WHEREAS, the act further requires the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to monitor, inspect and supervise public water supplies if the State Regulatory Agencies do not accept that responsibility; and WHEREAS, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the Illinois Department of Public Health have much greater familiarity and liasion with the public water supplies in Illinois; and WHEREAS, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the Illinois Department of Public Health could expand their staff more readily and more economically than the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to provide the programs required by the Act; and WHEREAS, the Act requires the State Regulatory Agencies to accept responsibility of the provisions contained therein by July 1, 1977 or the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will assume that responsibility. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and DuPage, State of Illinois: That the Governor of the State of Illinois and the Legislators of the State of Illinois, be, and they are hereby, requested and urged to provide the necessary legislation and funds for the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the Illinois Department of Public Health to assume the responsibilities of the provisions of the Safe Drinking Water Act of 1975 in order to assure the best programs of inspecting, monitoring and supervising the public water supplies throughout the State of Illinois so as to insure that the people of Illinois will receive the safest possible water supply. SECTION 1. That this resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval according to law.
