REQUESTING COOK COUNTY BOARD TO CONTINUE PROVIDING
TELETYPE WEATHER INFORMATION TO COMMUNITIES
WHEREAS, the Cook County Board of Commissioners has in the past supported
the dissemination by radio teletype of certain weather forecasts, radar sum-
maries, weather watches, and warnings originated by the Chicago office of the
National Weather Service; and
WHEREAS, these radio teletype transmissions have been received by nearly
one -hundred officially designated stations comprising the Cook County Civil
Defense Network, an organization set-up by the Cook County Civil Defense
Agency, approved by the Illinois Civil Defense Agency and authorized and
licensed by the Federal Communications Commission; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Elk Grove Village owns and operates radio tele-
type equipment for the purpose of receiving these weather forecasts on a
twenty-four hour a day basis and uses the information received to brief
village emergency crews coming on duty each morning on the day's expected
weather conditions; and
WHEREAS, weather watch and warning messages received by this radio tele-
type system are used by the Elk Grove Civil Defense Agency to alert Village
Officials, emergency workers, the Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Elk Grove
Park District, and all elementary District 59 schools of the weather condi-
tions. And the Outdoor Warning Siren System (OWSS) is activated to alert the
citizens of Elk Grove Village when a warning message is received on the tele-
printer.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the President and Board of Trustees
of the Village of Elk Grove Village hereby impeach, implore and request the
Cook County Board of Commissioners to continue providing teletype weather
information to communities in the Chicago Metropolitan Region, including Elk
Grove Village.
