Yes, we could go on with many more"WHEREASES", but Lyndon Johnson's claim to history cannot be told in those official words. WE, the citizens of Elk Grove Village and this Nation know that we are the richer for his having served both as a force of great magnitude in the U.S. Senate and as our President. He taught us to rise above our prejudices by a living example. A true Southerner, he none the less championed the cause of civil rights. He brought home to us a sorely needed lesson in loyalty. In many respects his political philosophy was diametrically opposed to that of John F. Kennedy, yet Lyndon Baines Johnson was responsible for the enactment of 47 out of 51 pieces of "Kennedy Legislation". No Vice President could have served the Chief Executive more loyally. The Nation sincerely regrets that Lyndon Johnson could not have lived to see his determination in Viet Nam, commencing in August, 1964 bear fruit in January, 1973. He has at last returned to the hill country of West Texas from where he came. He has left his mark on the lives of all of us, as so many great Americans have. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and Du Page, State of Illinois, that this resolution !shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval according to law. PASSED this 24th day of April 1973. APPROVED this 24th day of April 1973. Charles J. Zettek President ATTEST: Richard A. McGrenera Village Clerk
