A RESOLUT1014 OPPOSING THE "PROPERTY TAX FREEZE"LEGISLATION BEFORE THE
GENERAL ASSEMBLY
WHEREAS, the State of Illinois, 77th General Assembly has before it
legislation to freeze the real and personal property tax levy at the 1972
level , and
WHEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove
Village is cognizant that the property tax is a burden to every taxpayer, and
WHEREAS , the President and Board of Trustees has succeeded in reducing
existing property taxes for operations through responsible administration of
local municipal services, and
WHEREAS, the proposed legislation would give some relief to our taxpayers,
but growing communities, such as Ell; Grove Village would suffer a reduction in
the levels of service received, and
WHEREAS, a Tax Freeze would impose upon local governments undue hardship
by denying municipalities the benef' t of growth and by confiscating normal
revenue needed to meet ordinary expenses of a growing community, and
WHEREAS, local government can and does exercise responsible judgement in
keeping taxes down while not impairing the necessary and ordinary operation
of local government o►- jeopordizing the public safety, health or welfare of
its property owners and citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees
of the Village of Elk Grove Village , Counties of Cook and DUPage, State of
Illinois, that it does hereby oppose! the Property Tax Freeze legislation
now before the General Assembly.
