A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF ELK GROVE HIGH SCHOOL OBTAINING
DESIGNATED AIRCRAFT SOUND INSULATION FUNDING ELIGIBILITY FROM
THE FAA
WHEREAS; Township High School District No. 214 (the "School District") operates
Elk Grove High School in the Village of Elk Grove Village; Illinois; and
WHEREAS, Elk Grove High School has, and continues to meet one or more of the
eligibility criteria in order to receive aircraft sound insulation funding from the Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) as part of the School Sound Insulation Program; and
WHEREAS, the FAA arbitrarily eliminated Elk Grove High School from the aircraft
noise funding program based upon a future O"Hare Airport Modernization Plan that may never
be completed; and
WHEREAS, Elk Grove High School students and faculty continue to experience
disruptive aircraft noise impacts on a daily basis; and
WHEREAS, Elk Grove High School has had maintenance deferred upon its facilities
due to the promised aircraft noise funding; and
WHEREAS. the Board of Education of the School District has determined that it is
necessary, desirable, advantageous, and in the public interest to request that the FAA reconsider
the eligibility criteria as it relates to the O'Hare Airport noise contour; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Mayor and Board of
Trustees of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and DuPage, Illinois as follows:
Section 1: The Mayor and Board of Trustees find that all of the recitals contained above
are true and correct, and that the same are hereby incorporated herein by reference.
Section 2: The Mayor and Board of Trustees hereby requests that the FAA immediately
reconsider its requirements for eligibility criteria as it relates to the O'Hare Airport noise contour
so as to allow Elk Grove High School to be eligible for certain sound insulation funding under
the School Sound Insulation Program.
Section 3: That this Resolution be transmitted to United States President Barack Obama,
United States Senator Richard Durbin, United States Senator Roland Burris, United States
Representative Peter Roskam and United States Representative Melissa Bean.
Section 4: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage
and approval according to law.
