HomeMy WebLinkAboutYOUTH COMMISSION - 03/06/1999 - MINUTES YOUTH COMMISSION MEETING SATURDAY, MARCH 6, 1999 COUNCIL CHAMBERS Members In Attendance: Pat Feichter David Gaeger Joe Gaeger Brian Keyworth Rich Keyworth Barb Lahtinen Brittany Marques Marian Noehre Chris Prochno Mike Urban Members Absent: Amy Herrick Ashley Taylor Rich Keyworth was present at the meeting to ask the Youth Commission to participate in the Rotaryfest by acting as greeters. Participation would give them some visibility as a Commission and would help the Rotary Club by counting people. The Commission agreed to help out. Chris will come up with a sign-up sheet for the Commissioners. The times that the Youth Commissioners assistance are needed are: Wednesday 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Thursday 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Friday 6:00 p.m. — 11:00 p.m. Saturday When Parade Ends until 11:00 p.m. Sunday Noon until 10:00 p.m. Chris will give Rich Keyworth a schedule: about 1 week before the Rotaryfest advising him which Commissioners will work when. The Youth Commission will be sponsoring a float in the parade. Chris and Barb have secured a flatbed truck. The Commission discussed possible themes for the float. Barb and Chris will come up with some drawings for ideas. 2 Marian contacted Beth Madden about a display for the Commission at the Library. Both will be calling Chris to make arrangements to use the display. The Commission selected shirts that they would like to order to wear at various events. The back of the shirt will have the initials: E.G.V.Y.C. Besides standing for the Elk Grove Village Youth Commission, the initials stand for "Everyone Gains a Vision From Youth Commitment". The Commissioners would also like to have name tags made. Participation with the Lions on a Fourth of July activity was discussed. Barb and Rich Keyworth will look into different possibilities. Pat discussed changing the Youth Commission's budget to a higher amount to allow the Commission to participate and fund more activities. Chris and Pat will discuss the issue at greater length It was decided to reschedule the Youth Summit for early fall rather than in May. This will give the Commission time to get involved in more activities and have more experiences to share with other Commissioners. Chris will investigate another fund-raising event for the Commission. Marian suggested that the Commission sponsor a community talent show this summer using the Village Green property. This will be discussed in greeter detail at the next Commission Meeting. The meeting adjourned at 9:10 a.m. The next meeting of the Youth Commission will be on Saturday, April 10, 1999 at 8:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers.
