MEETING MINUTES
Thursday, January 20, 2000

Call to Order:
Alva Kreutzer called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Anne Feichter, who had been
Acting Secretary, since Mary Cortes' resignation, was officially declared Secretary by the
Board.
Action Items:
The minutes were approved as given, after a motion by Nancy Czarnik and a second by
Peg Vallillo. The newest member of the Community Service Board was introduced,
Desmond Rafferty. The Board introduced themselves and Des briefly told us about
himself and his background leading up to accepting a position as Social Worker with the
Elk Grove Police Department.
Chairperson's Report:
None
Coordinator's Report:
Written report in Board packets. Beth stated that the Salvation Army has raised almost
$1600 this past year, 40%of which goes back to Elk Grove Village.
Committee Reports:
Elk Grove Community Spirit Award Committee: Given by Mary Hale
Mary announced that Channel 6 would be doing another shoot next week. She
mentioned several who would be receiving awards. However, nominations are coming in
very slowly. The Board suggested ways to get more people interested in nominating
others.
Volunteer Committee: Given by Anne Feichter
A list of Elk Grove organizations with contacts and phone numbers was given to Rich
Sagen at Channel 6 to contact for promotion on Channel 6 of volunteer opportunities and
to let residents know what these organizations do and how to get more involved. As we
become aware of other formal or informal organizations, these will be passed along to
Channel 6.
No other committee reports.
New Business:
Volunteer Recognition Committee:
Beth Madden has drafted a letter to be sent to community organizations and churches
asking them to nominate people for the Volunteer Award given annually at the Village
Dinner each spring.
Workforce Development Council Scholarship Committee:
Beth also talked about the Work Force Development Scholarship to be awarded. It is
geared to adults trying to update or gain new skills needed for job advancement or a
career change or simply reentering the workforce. Last year there were no candidates
that fit the requirements. As of this date three candidates have submitted applications.
The money awarded is dependent on monies available and the recipients' needs.
Old Business:
Buduet:
Beth stated that the budget to be submitted is slightly higher because the Spirit
Committee Budget is now included.
Trustee Liason Report:
No report. Nancy Czarnik did announce the dates for the Millennium Parade, June 17,
and its theme, Holidays in Lights. The Grand Marshalls have been selected: Tony and
Peg Vallillo and Joe and Audrey Bosslet. The parade will be held at night with a 9:00
p.m. start. The Millennium Dance is February 5. A table is being reserved for any
Community Service Board members wishing to participate.
Board Reports:
Peg Vallillo stated that she helped again at Kohls to earn money for the Kenneth Young
Center. She also has made 42 bibs and sheets for the Township Day Care Center.
Alva Kreutzer announced that the Millennium Committee is planning an event for each
month of the year 2000. She mentioned several of the events including the Taste of Elk
Grove, the Lions Dinner Dance, Duck Race, Pioneer Days, Contest for Elk Grove song,
and the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony.
Announcements:
Suggestions for the Cook County Senior Medal of Honor are requested for next month's
meeting. The next Elk Grove Blood Drive is January 29`h. Beth Madden's engagement
to Ross Klicker was announced. A July wedding is planned.
® The next regular meeting of the Community Service Board will be Thursday, February
17, 2000 at 7:00 p.m.
