Coordinator's Report: Given by Linda Blair
WINGS sent the Board a thank you note from the Make a Difference Drive.
Adopt-a-Family program from Christmas was a booming success with 33 families served
at Thanksgiving and 44 at Christmas. This year as in the past two years, Coordinator
Blair has been helping families referred by Elk Grove Township since they meet the
criteria to receive our services. The office is fortunate to have a surplus of donors.
The Salvation Army Drive went well, total collected was $1,917 for two Saturdays worth
of work. Coordinator Blair was pleased with this drive.
The solicitation for Volunteer of the Year nominees will begin in February.
The Senior Directory was last published in 2001, so the office will be working on
updating it. This booklet will be for seniors and disabled individuals. It is distributed to
the Kenneth Young Center, the Senior Center and to anyone requesting a copy.
Anne Feichter asked if we had received requests from residents to help pay gas bills, but
the office hasn't received any yet. Fortunately, Vice President Tuozzo pointed out that
the Chicago land area has experienced a mild winter.

Families can receive $200 from the Salvation Army fund annually. Also, there is money
from the Housing Fund available to residents in need.
Village Voices usually does a choir concert once a year. It more than likely won't
happen this year since it has been scheduled on Super Bowl Sunday, and the choir
participation is minimal. They are looking at rescheduling the event, but there could be
conflicts with finding a time when the High School gym is open.
Des Raftery pointed out that the cancellation of this event would affect the Housing Fund
since it receives a donation every year. Coordinator Blair said that there were other
revenue sources available to make up for it.
There will be a fundraising walk in May to benefit the Kenneth Young Center and
Alexian Brothers Hospital.
May is Health Month and Coordinator Blair is looking for members to help organize this.
The Walk and Blood Drive are some of the scheduled activities.
Oh New Business:
Vice President Tuozzo was open to any suggestions as to what activities the Board could
do to help the Community for 2006 (Make A Difference Day, the selling of Bracelets at
Rotary Fest, analyzing a need in the Village), but he also recognized that our resources
could be devoted to help the Anniversary Committee. Vice President Tuozzo discussed
whether the Board would do the same amount of activities as last year.
Des Raftery suggested finding a social need that's out there as the Board did in 2005 with
a focus on Domestic Violence and Domestic Violence Month. Des Raftery brought up
depression as being something that the Board could focus on to help the Community.
The Board agreed that it would be beneficial to have presenters speak to the Board in an
attempt to educate them about the different social services, many of which are scrambling
for money as a result of budget cuts and lack of funding. There are plenty of
opportunities for the Board's involvement in these organizations. Also, Coordinator
Blair suggested looking at getting the Community involved in these programs since a
larger pool of volunteers can be accessed.
Trustee Czarnik suggested focusing on working with other organizations to piggyback
since we are limited with volunteers. Trustee Czarnik brought up the fact that it takes
time to build some of the programs (i.e. the Blood Drive) that are in place today.

Coordinator Blair thought that it would be a good idea to have the providers of social
services speak to the Board so that we could get a better understanding of what's out
there.
Des Raftery suggested looking ahead to anticipate what challenges might lay ahead in the
future. One of the things that Des has seen among young kids is "lethargy" in them, so
he wonders what can be done to help them. Culturally, we are dealing with more Polish
people with issues. He thought that we should study the demographics in the Community
more to understand how to better serve the Community.
Trustee Czarnik questioned how do we get information passed out to people who are not
familiar with what's available.
For the next meeting, Coordinator Blair and Police Social Worker Raftery will come up
with a list of people to bring in to do a small presentation with a conversation afterwards.
Mary Paliganoff suggested that we shorten the agenda and/or start the Board meetings
earlier when we are having presentations. Another thought was brought up to have pizza
• and cola available for extended Board meetings.
Committee Reports:
Old Business:
Coordinator Blair sent Sgt.Naumann a thank you for presenting at the last meeting.
Trustee Liaison Report: Given by Trustee Nancy Czarnik
The calendars are a fundraiser for the Village. Community Service will be a recipient of
the proceeds of the birthday celebration. The calendar is an excellent way to keep people
updated about the events. She thought that we should try and promote the Home
Giveaway so that way the Community Service Housing Fund and some other
organizations (Lions, Lioness, Rotary, Alexian Brothers, Kiwanis, Community Character
Coalition, Jaycees and Park District to buy the Senior Bus will greatly benefit.
Announcements:
The Dinner Dance is February 25, 2006.
Schaumburg and Elk Grove will have a New Years Eve Party in December at the
Convention Center to culminate both Communities birthdays.
Trivia Night is this Saturday, January 20, 2006.
