Mary • Paliganoff asked that the Minutes reflect that it was the decision of the Board that "The Focus of 2006 will be Education'. She further requested that action items be reflected in the minutes, rather than just reporting what went on. A motion to reflect the changes was presented by Jim Foss, seconded by Peg Vallillo. Approved by a majority. Minutes to reflect the corrections and additions. Coordinator's Report: Given by Linda Blair Linda reported that there are not any big projects going on in the Community Service office at this time. She reported that she is working on updating the Senior Handbook, which this time will include services for those with disabilities. New Business: Requests for nominations for the Cook County Sheriff's Medal of Honor have been out for approximately three weeks. As of this date there have been no responses. Discussion followed regarding ways to increase visibility of the program and capture more nominations. Peg Vallillo presented the name of Sheila Webb as a possible nominee. Ms. Webb was the recipient of the Community Spirit award earlier in the year. Linda Blair advised that she would follow up with the person that submitted Ms. Webb's name for the Community Spirit award in an attempt to verify her qualifications (specifically her age, due to the criteria of award). ® CSB Minutes Page two Letters seeking nominations for the Elk Grove Village Volunteer of the Year Award have been sent. Candidates will be submitted at the March 16, 2006 meeting for Board approval. Old Business: In response to the Board wanting to learn more about existing Social Service agencies, Linda Blair presented a brief description of approximately 15 local agencies that provide services to seniors, youth and adolescents, families, and special populations. These are agencies that are available to residents of Elk Grove and the surrounding areas. The group discussed which groups that they may be interested in hearing more about. Georgia Landt suggested that perhaps it would be appropriate to invite service groups such as: the Jaycees, Kiwanis, Lions Club and Lioness Club to the Community Service Board meetings when the chosen agencies make their presentations. The rationale being that these groups often offer financial support to Social Service agencies and this would be a good opportunity for them to get the most current information on the agencies. It was the consensus of the group that this would be a good idea. Linda will extend the invitation. It was decided that the Board meetings will begin at 6:30 p.m. on the evenings when there is a presentation, to accommodate the presenters. Mike Tuozzo questioned whether the Community Service Board would be participating in the annual Rotary Fest with a fundraising effort for the WINGS program. Mr. Tuozzo reported that he has found a source for bracelets similar to those that were sold last year, which would cost less than those sold last year. Discussion followed regarding continuing with any type of fund raising efforts, whether it benefit WINGS, or another program. Theresa Anesinis stated that it was her understanding that the focus for the Board in 2006 was to be education about other agencies, not further fundraising for the WINGS group. Other members indicated that was also their understanding and that there would not be participation by Community Services at Rotary Fest. The Board chose the following agencies to hear presentations from: Safe from the Start/Children's Advocacy Center Journeys from Pads to Hope Kenneth Young Centers Progress Center/Life Span Linda will make arrangements for the presentations at the next four Board meetings. ® CSB Minutes Page three Announcements: A reminder to the Board of the Anniversary Dinner Dance, with a Mardi Gras theme, will be held on February 25, 2006 and there are still tickets available. Adjournment: Peg Vallillo motioned to adjourn the meeting and it was seconded by Jim Foss at approximately 8:10 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Linda Blair
