HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOMMUNITY SERVICES - 11/16/2000 - COMMUNITY SERVICES MINUTES dim ELK GROVE VILLAGE COMMUNITY SERVICE BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING MINUTES Thursday, November 16, 2000 Conference Room C—Lower Level Municipal Building Board members Present: Board Members Absent: Teresa Anesinis Jim Foss Nancy Czarnik Mary Hale Anne Feichter Alva Kreutzer Tony Kees Sal Pace James Morrill Mary Paliganoff Peg Vallillo Desmond Raftery Dick Scholten Staff Present: Beverly Jaszczurowski Call to Order: Anne Feichter, Acting Chairperson, called the meeting to order at 7:10 p.m. Action Items: A correction was made in the spelling of Teresa Anesinis. The corrected minutes were approved after a motion by Peg Vallillo and a second by Tony Kees. Coordinator's Report: Given by Beverly Jaszczurowski Thanksgiving Adopt-A-Family: We have 35 families and individuals being assisted this year for Thanksgiving. The drop-off and distribution will be November 20`n Salvation Army Red Kettle: There are several time slots still available for the first four weekends in December for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Drive. We need volunteers. Happy Memories: The Happy Memories Christmas Party is scheduled for Saturday, December 9'n from 12 noon until 4:00 p.m. Make A Difference Day: Huge Success! Over$10,000 raised for PADS. The food drive was fantastic. We had enough food to share with the Township. LIHEAP: Two presentations were made at Sheila Ray Senior Center and Village Grove Apartments. The turn out at the Grove apartments was low. Seniors concerned that others would know about their income or lack of it. They have made appointments to ® come to the Community Service office to complete applications. In 3-4 weeks about 20 applications have been completed. Budget: Who is on the Budget Committee? Budget due to Finance by December 7`n. The Budget Committee will need to meet sometime before then to review the budget. Governor's Conference on Aging and Human Services: Held in Chicago on December 61h— 8`h. Beverly will be attending all three days. Vacation: Beverly will be off November 30`n and December I" as well as December I I'h and 12`h. Marty will be off on December 15`h and December 26`n Christmas Adopt-A-Family: Drop off and distribution date is December 18`h. Budget Committee: The Committee will be comprised of Jim Foss, Peg Vallillo, Jim Morrill and Teresa Anesinis. Committee Reports: Spirit Committee: Given by Anne Feichter for Mary Hale The walk for PADS raised $12,000. At 6:00 a.m. on November 17`h on Channel 7 the Elk Grove Spirit Committee will be spotlighted by Tracy Butler. Volunteer Committee: Given by Anne Feichter The Kenneth Young Center will be spotlighted in December. The year 2001 is designated as the year of the volunteer. Beverly plans to make a tape about this project that can be shown on Channel 6 in January. The Village Wide Garage sale will be held on May 19, 2001. Because a quorum of board members was not present, there was no new or old business to enact. Trustee Laision Report: Given by Nancy Czarnik The Village Tree Lighting Ceremony will be held on Friday, November 24`n at 5:30 p.m. On November 251h the City of Peoria will hold its night parade. Nancy Czarnik announced that she planned to attend the parade. Old Business: None Board Liaison Report: None Community Service Member Reports: Peg Vallillo announced that on Monday, October 30`h she worked at the Elk Grove Food Pantry to sort food received from the Community Food Drive. Enough food was received to be able to share some of it with the Elk Grove Day Care Center. The December meeting will be held as a Christmas party on Tuesday, December 12th Announcements: The next Community Service Board meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on January 18, 2001.
