RESOLUTION NO. 47-86 <br />A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE ELIMINATION OF THE <br />GENERAL REVENUE SHARING PROGRAM <br />WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States is presently considering <br />various budget proposals for fiscal 1987, which include consideration of <br />funding programs of great importance to local governments; and <br />WHEREAS, the Village of Elk Grove Village like many other economically <br />hard-pressed communitites throughout Illinois and the Midwest, has applied <br />federal dollars to fund programs vital to maintaining quality public services <br />and to promoting economic recovery; and <br />WHEREAS, villages like Elk Grove Village cannot reasonably be expected <br />to raise local taxes continuously in the face of federal cutbacks and still <br />be competitive in attracting new residents and industries to locate here; <br />and <br />WHEREAS„ various alternatives have been proposed for reducing the <br />federal deficit, which would be less costly to our national economic well- <br />being then the elimination of programs aimed at public services and <br />economic recovery. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the President and Board of Trustees <br />of the Village of Elk Grove Village, Counties of Cook and DuPage, State of <br />Illinois: <br />Section 1. The President and Board of Trustees strongly oppose <br />elimination of the General Revenue Sharing Program; (the Community <br />Development Block Grant program and support to low and moderate income <br />housing). <br />1. Section 2. The President and Board of Trustees encourage the citizens <br />of Elk Grove Village to inform themselves of the position of their Congres- <br />sional delegation on these issues that could directly affect their local tax <br />burden. <br />Section 3. That the Village Clerk is hereby directed to send a certified <br />copy of this Resolution to members of the Illinois Congressional delegation, <br />including Senators Dixon and Simon, Congressman Henry J. Hyde and the President. <br />Section 4.
